With brisk polling underway on Tuesday, the incumbent Hamid Ansari is all set to be re-elected as vice president for a 2nd term who enjoys support by Left parties and UPA allies like SP and BSP. 75-year-old Ansari appears to beat NDA nominee Jaswant Singh. By 1.00 pm 600 electors out of 787 MPs had already cast their vote.
BJD, TDP and RSP refrained from voting while Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh is ill and admitted to a Chennai hospital. Hamid Ansari a former minister of external affairs and finance, also enjoys the support of NDA and AIADMK.
