Govt. of Telangana has not yet taken any decision to give legal status to the building constructed adjacent to Hajj House Nampally, Hyderabad. Wakf Board had sent proposals for exempting Municipal Tax to the tune of Rs. 4.6 crore. GHMC had issued a notice for payment of this tax. On the assurance given by Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Dy. CM proposal was sent to Govt. for exemption since Wakf Board is not in a position to pay such a huge tax. The officials of GHMC are not in favour of tax exemption. They cite the example of the buildings of Hindu Endowment Board which pays the Municipal Tax.
It may be noted that during the tenure of office of Mr. Anwarul Huda, IPS as Special Office of Wakf Board, the land adjacent to Hajj House was purchased at the cost Rs. 22 crore. Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the then CM had laid the foundation for the construction of the building in February 2009. The construction work started in December 2012. Wakf Board proposes to lease this building to an institutions which could complete the remaining construction work and pay the rent to it. Wakf Board expects a huge income from its rent. It is understood that the file pertaining to tax exemption is pending with the CM for the past 4 months.
