Hajj 2018: Mass of white at the holy site

JEDDAH: Hundreds of thousands of Muslim pilgrim from across the globe have already arrived in the sacred city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

Incredible photographs showed a massive crowd dressed in white congregated at the cube-shaped Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque) during morning prayers.

The 2018 Hajj officially begins on Sunday, August 19 and continues till Friday, August 24, is reportedly the largest single gathering of people on the planet earth where over 30 lakh pilgrims are expected to gather around the Kaaba, Islam’s holiest site from around the world.

The five-day pilgrimage begins on the 8th to 12th day of Dhul-Hijjah, the 12th and final month in the Islamic calendar.

Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam is mandatory for Muslim adults to undertake the journey at least once in their lifetime.
