Hyderabad, June 06: Central Haj Committee has made preparations to burden the Haj Pilgrims to the tune of Re 1 crore by imposing the condition to buy luggage baggage. In order to resolve the complaints of extra luggage, this proposal is under consideration. Final decision will be taken on the occasion of national Haj conference scheduled to be held on 13th June.
Haj Committee proposes to charge Rs 8000 from each pilgrim to provide two standard luggage bags. In this it is trying to burden the pilgrims to the extent of Rs 96 crore. If this proposal is accepted, the door to corruption way will be opened. For awarding the contracts for luggage boxes, the companies will be asked to give bribe. The pilgrims may complain that the bags are sub-standard. This problem had come up during the NDA regime but it was shelved on account of public pressure against it.
For the distribution of luggage bags, the State Haj Committee proposes to divide the state into 4 zones comprising Hyderabad City, Telangana Rayalseema and Coastal Andhra. It is learnt that some State Haj Committees have opposed this move and a few committees have agreed for this.
