Kendrapara, August 23: At least six persons were injured and several houses damaged as a hailstorm wrought havoc at Magarkanda village in Kendrapara district today, official sources said.
Over 150 people were rendered homeless as the hailstorm destroyed about 20 mud-walled houses.
A large number of trees are lying uprooted blocking the road leading to the village, said Sashmita Das, Sarpanch of Satabhaya gram panchayat.
“We are trying to shift the homeless people to Satabhaya gram panchayat building. No senior officials from the Rajnagar block headquarters have reached the village. The local revenue inspector is the sole official representative to come to the village,” she said.
Those who have taken shelter at Satabhaya were provided free cooked food, which they will get tomorrow too.
Food, relief materials and polythene sheets were rushed to the village, Kendrapara Collector Sisirkanta Panda said.
