Imam Ghulam Hassan Shah who did a cameo in the Bollywood film Haider, which involved reciting the nikah of Gazala Mir (Tabu), is no longer in the position of an Imam as the local mosque accused him of performing an unethical act.
Shah, a resident of south Kashmir area of Qazigund use to discharges his duty as ‘Imam’ for more than seven years has been expelled by the management of Masjide-Baba Dawood Khaki in the old city of Srinagar.
Shah through his counsel Firdous Ahmad Bhat, has sent a legal notice to the director of Haider, demanding that he should show remorse for using the video recording deceitfully or face a damages claim of Rs 50 lakh.
Firdous Ahmad Bhat told Mail Today that Shah has gone-ahead with the shoot on the assurance that it would be used for “education purpose only” but the footage has not only defamed him but also lowered his status and self-respect in the society at large.
“The management felt that Imam’s acting in a Bollywood film is unbecoming of the Imam and it is unethical and have removed him from the job,” Bhat said.
Bhat, in his legal notice, sent to Vishal Bhardwaj, has alleged that the latter has done a mistake.
