Member of Legislative Council and president State Jamiat Ulama Hafez Peer Shabbir Ahmed defended 4 pc Muslim reservations in Supreme Court and demanded that the government provide 12 percent reservations to Muslims as promised. Delivering the last speech of his term in the council Peer Shabbir Ahmed said that the government had allocated ₹ 1030 cr budget for minorities during the financial year 2014-15 but only 40 pc budget was spent and now ₹ 1105 cr budget has been sanctioned for 2015-16. Hence ₹ 400 cr must be released every 3 months and practical measures must be taken for growth of minorities. He told that it is difficult for unemployed minority youth to obtain loan from nationalised banks hence government must provide loans directly form Minority Finance Corporation. Among the other demands he made included setting up of SETWIN centres in all districts of Telangana, promoting Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar as tourist spots, release of prisoners, irrespective of religion and caste, who don’t afford to pay bail amount, acquittal of innocent people who have been arrested, benefiting potter community through schemes and disbursement of complete minority budget.
