Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday paid rich tributes to the police personnel who have sacrificed their lives for the country.
Addressing the Police Commemoration Day function at Goshamahal Stadium here, the Chief Minister praised the services being rendered by Andhra Pradesh Police in tackling terrorism, left-wing extremism and maintaining law and order in the State. He said that the State Police has emerged as a role model for other States.
The Chief Minister also announced several measures for the welfare of policemen in the State. He said a corporate level hospital would be constructed for the police personnel at a cost of Rs 50 crore. Further, Rs 35 crore will be sanctioned for maintenance of Staff Quarters. He also assured that the recruitment in the department would be taken up at a huge scale and the policemen would be exempted from VAT.
Kiran Kumar Reddy also assured that his government would increase the financial assistance being given to the families of police martyrs.
Home Minister P Sabitha Indira Reddy too applauded the services of police personnel who sacrificed their lives for the people. She enthralled the society to recognise the services of policemen and the sacrifices that their families every day.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy announced that the subsidised canteen facility would be extended to all policemen in the State on the lines of Army canteens.
Earlier, Governor ESL Narasimhan, Chief Minister, Home Minister, DGP and other senior police officials paid floral tributes to the police martyrs at the stadium. (INN)
