A five-day World Mayors’ Conference will begin at HICC here on October 6 and conclude on October 10. Governor ESL Narasimhan and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao are likely to address the big event. President Pranab Mukherjee is expected to address the valedictory on October 9 or 10, according to information.
The GHMC has made elaborate arrangements for the event to be attended by Mayors from 468 cities and 1,658 delegates. Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma said Rs 15 crores released for the event to be conducted with global standards. Delegates are expected from Sydney, Geneva, Dhaka, Montreal, Tehran, Bahrain and others.
The Conference will discuss on problems in cities, financial growth, jobs, slums, housing, basic amenities, traffic congestion, pollution and good governance. Rajiv Sharma launched a separate mobile application for the event also to be found on a separate website.
According to GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar, roads in 125 km stretch were repaired for the program while 750 police personnel were being deployed. (NSS)
