Guv happy on TS Eamcet Plan; joint exam if AP wants, says Jagadish Reddy

Telangana Education Minister G Jagadish Reddy today clarified that the TRS government would conduct separate Eamcet-2015 for Telangana students through its Higher Education Council. He also said they were ready to conduct combined Eamcet if Andhra Pradesh government is willing.

Speaking to mediapersons at Secretariat here, Jagadish Reddy said Governor ESL Narasimhan expressed content on Telangana plan of conducting the examination, whose schedule will be out soon. “When I called on Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan, the Governor asked me to conduct exams avoiding any inconvenience to students. The AP students, who want to appear for Telangana Eamcet should apply separately and get 15 per cent of quota, while the locals will get 85 per cent as usual”, he added.

Jagadish Reddy ridiculed AP Human Resources Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao’s comment that Telangana State Higher Education Council was not recognized and cannot conduct any examination. “The Union Government formed Telangana as 29th State and as per Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, we will conduct our own Eamcet”, he contended. “The AP Government got separated itself by announcing Eamcet schedule unilaterally and it cannot continue to hold supremacy on our State”, he said, adding that the AP Government should behave like a neighboring State.

Jagadish Reddy reprimanded his AP counterpart for trying to belittle Telangana State and its Higher Education Council. Stating that they have issued orders to conduct the Eamcet soon, the minister said the existing system of admissions and Intermediate weightage will continue and there will be no change. Responding to a query, he said his government has appointed a search committee to appoint Vice-Chancellors. He accused the AP Government of habituated to violate norms and its own GOs for 60 years pertaining to examinations and other issues. “We are not ready to accept AP Government’s meaningless comments which are aimed at tarnishing the image of Telangana State, he said.
