Hyderabad, March 19: Gutkha which is already harmful for the health will from now on cause extra burden on your pocket as Supreme Court has imposed ban on present plastic packing. The ban came into effect from March 1, 2011.
Health experts advice the consumers of gutkha that atleast due to fear of the extra burden on their pocket they free themselves of this bad habit so that their health as well as expenses are protected.
Following Supreme Court judgment, from now on gutkha will be available in new packing instead of plastic sachets. The new packing will be made of paper and aluminum and will be environment friendly while the present plastic sachets are non-biodegradable.
Gutkha industry has an yearly business of 50000 crore rupees and the packaging industry has an yearly business of 3 to 5 percent of the above said business but the alternative packaging will increase the cost upto 7 to 8 percent. This extra burden shall have to be borne by the consumers. So it’s high time that they get rid of this harmful habit both health-wise and economy-wise.
