The tobacco epidemic is one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever faced. The number of gukta consumers is rising alarmingly. India’s adult population mostly in the age group of 15-35 is tasting gutka for the first time and using it as a chocolate.
Teens in the age group of 12-15 years consume about 5-15 packets a day. After Indian Dental Association (IDA) and many other medical associations rallied for a ban on gutka, the Government banned it after becoming aware of its ill-effects but the number of gukta consumers is still escalating alarmingly.
Shekhar Salkar, general secretary of National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE)-India said: “Everyday, almost 2,500 people die in India due to consumption of tobacco and smoking.”
Because of this, thousands of people are even suffering from asthma and bronchitis, other than cancer and heart attacks. They are dying due to their addiction towards this sweet but slow poison which they are chewing as tobacco. Many families are losing their children.
Even after being aware of all this, our Islamic scholars are issuing a Fatwa that the ‘Income from Gutkha and Tobacco’ is ‘Halal’ and ‘Jayaz’.
Some scholars are saying it as Makrooh and some are calling it as Karahat.
How a thing that is destroying a Human body badly can be allowed in Islam?
Now it is up to you to decide……….
