Guntakal MLA Madhusudan Gupta on Wednesday welcomed the proposal of formation of Rayala Telangana.
Speaking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party office here, Gupta said that the Rayala Telangana would address the concerns of drinking and irrigation water needs of Anantapur and Kurnool districts. He claimed that a majority of people in Telangana region and also the two districts were in favour of Rayala Telangana. However, he alleged that TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao was opposing the move due to his own political reasons.
The Congress MLA demanded that if Rayala Telangana was not possible, then the Centre should constitute second States’ Reorganisation Commission to study the demand for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Stating that the Anantapur and Kurnool would suffer a heavy loss if merged with Seemandhra region, he said that people in the district would agree for merger with Karnataka if their water problemes are solved. However, he maintained that he was in favour of united Andhra Pradesh as the division of State would multiply the problems of all regions. He said all the other options could be exercised if the division is inevitable. (INN)
