New Delhi, August 17: A meat supplier was today robbed of Rs 20 lakh at gunpoint in the national capital by three unknown men who fled from the scene after forcibly taking away a motorcycle from its rider.
The incident took place near Vijaya Bank branch in IP Extension area of east Delhi at around 3.10 pm. It was in the same locality that some motorcycle-borne robbers shot dead a security guard and robbed a businessman of Rs 18 lakh in May.
Mohammed Arif, the meat supplier, was about to board his car after withdrawing Rs 20 lakh from the Vijaya Bank branch in Plaza market when the incident took place, a senior police official said.
Arif, who runs ‘Alina Meat’, came out of the bank and waved to his driver Mohammed Akram to get the car which was parked across the road.
The three men suddenly appeared on the scene and put a country made pistol on Arif’s head, snatched the cash bag and ran away.
“They were on foot. As they ran, they stopped a motorcyclist, Kuldeep Singh, and threatened him at gunpoint before fleeing in his two-wheeler,” the official said. Arif then made call to police.
According to Arif’s driver Akram, he was waiting for his boss. “Before I could start the car, I saw three men scuffling with him. They snatched the bag from his hands and came towards me,” he said
