Gunman opens fire at Philippine casino, 34 bodies found

Manila: Thirty-four people have been found dead in Resorts World Manila, after a gunman burst in firing shots and setting gaming tables alight in the early hours of Friday morning, according to a local official.

Police said the unidentified gunman had killed himself after firing at armed officers. His body was found in a hotel room in the complex, which is close to Ninoy Aquino International Airport and an air force base.

The Police also said that he had set fire to himself after shooting at officers searching the still-smoking building.

The victims died due to suffocation, Bureau of Fire Protection, Southern Police District Director P/Supt. Tomas Apolinario said in an interview that.”Most of the victims were women who were found dead inside the bathroom.”

Police Chief Director Ronald dela Rosa said. “We’re looking at robbery as an angle because he stole, he barged into the storage room for casino chips,” he added. “He took the chips, put them inside his backpack but eventually left it. The backpack was recovered by the police.”

Resorts World Manila is a huge complex with more than four hotels, a shopping mall, casino, cinema and theater.
