Gun racket busted in TN, pistol seized, four held

Chennai: Four men who allegedly ran a gun racket were arrested and a pistol, two magazines and cartridges seized from them today, police said.

They were arrested after they allegedly offered for sale a pistol when a decoy police officer posed as a prospective buyer scouting for illegal pistols.

The arrest follows weeks of surveillance mounted over suspects by the sleuths of Organised Crime Intelligence/ Investigation Unit with city police pitching in.

While a case has been registered for offences under Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act and a probe is on, police said they were on the lookout for “others” as well who were suspected to have been involved in the racket.

Police said they were looking to zero in on the origin and source of such illegal arms making their way into Tamil Nadu.

Last year, four men were arrested in a case of illegal country made gun trade here.

In similar previous cases too, illicit country made guns were allegedly procured by local criminal gangs from West Bengal and Bihar and they had tried to sell them off for fancy prices.
