Vadodara, February 01: AT 65, women of her age enjoy the bliss of playing with their grandchildren. But for Vadodara’s Raju Ben this Republic Day brought the joys of motherhood for the first time after 40 years.
Raju and her retired police constable husband Hawa Singh, 68, suffered the agony of being childless for four decades after their marriage during which time she suffered four miscarriages.
She had to undergo multiple surgeries on her tubes and uterus because of tuberculosis and ovarian cysts making it all the more difficult for her to conceive.
Visits to specialists and hospitals in various cities of Gujarat yielded no result. Then they came in contact with Dr Gunjan Jain of a private hospital in Jaipur.
“ I had lost all hopes, but now everyone who called me infertile has been silenced,” says the mother. The first time Raju Ben conceived with the help of the IVR technique it baby had to aborted. But she got lucky in the second attempt.
“ We injected specific hormones to prepare the uterus for conception. The embryo was developed through IVF technology using the sperms of her husband which was then transferred to her uterus. Everyone was delighted to see a positive pregnancy test on day 14 of her embryo transfer,” Jain said.
