Ahmedabad, February 05:Gujarat government has issued a show-cause notice to senior IPS officer Rahul Sharma who had submitted a Compact Disk (CD) containing phone call records of police officials and political leaders to various probe panels inquiring into the 2002 post-Godhra riots.
In-charge DGP of Gujarat, Chitranjan Singh, said a show-cause notice has been issued by Gujarat government to Mr. Sharma through him.
“Yes, I have received a show-cause notice. It is regarding the CD of phone call records,” Mr. Sharma told PTI.
He said he is yet to study the notice and will give a response to it only after consulting legal experts.
The notice asks Mr. Sharma why action should not be initiated against him for handing over the telephone records concerning the 2002 riots to inquiry panels without obtaining permission from the government.
Mr. Sharma has been given 15 days time to send his reply.
The move by the State government comes a day after the Tehelka magazine released details of the purported report of the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) into Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s alleged role in the post—Godhra riots in 2002.
Mr. Sharma, who was posted in Ahmedabad during the 2002 post-Godhra riots, had asked private service providers like Celforce and AT&T to furnish details of calls made across the State during late February and early March of 2002.
