Gujarat riot case: After 14 years, court acquitted 118 Hindu-Muslims

Vadodara:  A Nadiad sessions court freed 118 Muslims and Hindus, arrested for violence during a post-Godhra riot in 2002.

On Friday, Additional Sessions Judge NT Solanki acquitted the accused as the cops failed to provide any substantial evidence.

The accused had submitted to the court during the trial that there was no antagonism between Hindus and Muslims in the town and both communities were living in synchronization at present.

According to Indian Express, the case dates back to the 2002 Sabarmati train carnage in Godhra riots, 118 persons were detained from neighbouring areas in 4 separate incidents for stone-pelting, rioting and torching of houses, shops and vehicles, said Public Prosecutor Advocate Paresh.

The verdict came 14 years after the incident. It also came to know that out of 118, 11 persons died due to natural causes.
