Not only are human beings who were detained by the police, pigeons too get arrested.
Gujarat police ‘detained’ a pigeon near the India-Pakistan border when they found a chip on one leg, a ring with a code ‘’28733’’on the other leg and some Urdu or Arabic writings on it.
According to sources, the perplexing matter raised suspicion of espionage for a possible terror attack.
A detailed report was dutifully dispatched by Gujarat Police to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs about its ‘mysterious’ landing.
According to two-page report sent to the Coast Guard, forest department, forensic experts and Gujarat’s own anti-terrorism squad were all alerted last week and asked to scrutinize the matter.
The pigeon was first seen on March 20 about five nautical miles away from the shore of under construction Salaya Essar jetty, when one of the security guards saw it and it found that ‘’the pigeon was not afraid of him and not going away’’.
The chip was found to have the writings ‘Benjing Dual’ inscribed on it. This was googled and was found that ‘Benzing Dual’ is a sensor chip used for racing pigeons and the metal ring, inscribed with the number 28733, was maybe the bird’s identification number.
Further, “Messenger of Allah (SWT)” was written on the pigeon’s wings in the Urdu/Arabic in blue.
The reports furthered that the pigeon might have migrated to Indian shores and missed out of a ship somewhere in the deep sea and in search of drinking water might and have reached the shore of Salaya Essar jetty.
