Gujarat Muslim social activists demand justice for Majid of Bhuj

Ahmedabad: Do we remember Najeeb of JNU?  Najeeb Ahmed is a missing first-year M.Sc Biotechnology student of Jawaharlal Nehru University, in New Delhi, India who has been missing under suspicious circumstances since 15 October 2016 from his college campus. Now it is the turn of Majid of Bhuj, Gujarat. He is missing for the last three week.

Ahmadabad human right activities held a meeting with his wife and Bhuj based social activist Mohsin hingora yesterday and got details about Majid’s disappearance from his home. His wife  Aashiyana Theba was weeping as she narrated the whole episode of police torture and subsequent her husband’s mysteriously disappearance. Advocate Shamshad Pathan, Abdul Ahad Pathan, Sufiyan Rajput and many other activists took serious of the incident and decided to organize a rally on 26th August from Ahmedabad to Bhuj to get justice for him.

A  habeas corpus will be filed in court for justice of affected family and memorandum will be given throughout Gujarat to create pressure on the authorities. A detailed report about this incident will be sent to Women commission and human right commission of India.

His Aashiyana Theba, 22, is expecting her first child. But there is no excitement about the pregnancy. Her husband Majid Theba, 27, has been missing since July 19. She believes the police, who had come to her house that night, kidnapped and killed him. Aashiyana has now submitted a memorandum to Kutch collector Remya Mohan through an organization Falahul Muslemeen.

Recalling the day, Aashiyana says, “We were having dinner when three policemen, including head constable Jayeshbhai (of Bhuj A division police station), came asking for Majid. They started beating him. When I tried to stop them, they thrashed me. My family members had to intervene and request them to leave me as I am pregnant. I had to be admitted to GK General Hospital in Bhuj.” She claims she has not seen her husband since then. She lodged a complaint at hospital police chowky.

She alleged that though she was in need of medical attention, hospital authorities discharged her around midnight under pressure from police.

“When my sister-in-law and I were walking towards our home, a police van came and ordered us to reach A division police station,” In her memorandum, she claimed she was abused and beaten by policeman with belt. She alleged she was called in absence of a woman personnel.

According to Kutch SP M S Bharada, Majid is a habitual offender. Inspector of A division police station, MJ Jalu confirmed that the cops had gone to Majid’s residence, but claimed that he had absconded. “There are two cases against him, including one of the honey trap in which he was a co-accused and out on bail. Police had received an application from Hafeza Pathan, an accused in the case, that Majid and his wife had beat her up on July 19.

Hence we went to his home,” said Jalu. Cops have refuted allegations that they had pressurized the hospital to discharge Aashiyana.

Collector Remya Mohan said, “A memorandum was submitted by Falahul Muslemeen, to me and I inquired regarding the same with SP. The woman has not met me in person.”
