Around 2500 Muslim families from Kalyannagar, a hutment have been denied the right to live and the administration has failed to provide them with the promised new homes.
As reported in Muslim Mirror, these families has been evacuated under the pretext of development and with a promised for new place to live. Local municipality bulldozed the entire area in the mid of November.
Only 200 were offered slum clearance housing that too on the outskirts of the city and the other half are awaiting allotment of slum housing.
Flats were allotted by the municipalities but they cannot shift since there is a strong opposition from local BJP / VHP people.
They are decent, hard working people but the Hindu Hit Rakshak Samithi charged Muslims as Bangladeshis and is dirty and their presence will lower the real estate values of middle class societies. VHP actions amount to untouchability.
It’s been over 5 months that the houses of these residents were bulldozed, and till date, they don’t have a single house to live in. And now residents of Kalyannagar are planning to travel to Delhi to conduct fast at Jantar Mantar.
For the Muslim families, the future is suddenly uncertain.
