Gujarat: Five Dalits detained for obstructing BJP MPs from garlanding Ambedkar statue

New Delhi: Activists supporting MLA Jignesh Mevani were detained by the Police who tried to prevent BJP leaders from garlanding the BR Ambedkar’s statue in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on the eve of Ambedkar Jayanti.

Following the ruckus created by the activists, the Police have arrested Dalit activists who had attempted to stop BJP MP Kirit Solanki from garlanding the Ambedkar Statue according to the reports, India Today reports.

Security in Uttar Pradesh was beefed up to prevent any possible ruckus on the even of Ambedkar Jayanti.

BJP MP Solaki responding to the incident said: “No force in the universe can stop us (from paying tribute to Ambedkar).”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and Congress President Rahul Gandhi all paid their tribute to BR Ambedkar on his 127th birth anniversary at Parliament in New Delhi today.

While Superintendents of Police and Districts magistrates have been ordered to ensure peace in their respective jurisdiction, security is also beefed up in places to avoid any planned conspiracy inciting violence in areas.
