Guj police to probe Aslam’s role in Ahmedabad station blast

Ahmedabad, August 26: Gujarat police will investigate the role of Mohammad Aslam alias Salim who was arrested in New Delhi yesterday, in the Ahmedabad railway station blast that took place in February 2006, police officials said today.

“Once the investigation of the Delhi police is over, we will probe the role of Aslam in the blast at the city railway station in February 2006,” state Anti-terrorist Squad (ATS) chief Ajay Tomar told PTI.

“We may also request for his custody from the Delhi police but only after their investigation is over,” he added.

A powerful explosion took place at the Ahmedabad railway station in the wee hours on February 19, 2006, injuring 10 people. The police suspect that Aslam had played some role in that explosion.

Aslam was caught by Delhi Police’s Special Cell about an hour before he was to board a Nanded-bound Sachkand Express yesterday. He was caught allegedly with four detonators, two timers and two kgs of explosive chemicals.

The Delhi police has claimed that Aslam was headed towards Aurangabad in Maharashtra to hand over explosives to two men believed to be part of a terror module.
