Ahmedabad, November 09: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Gujarat have registered a case of death due to negligence against seven followers of spiritual Guru Asaram Bapu in connection with the mysterious death of two boys at the Asaram Gurukul last year.
CID had registered a case against seven followers under Section 304 of IPC following an investigation and a lie detection test of three disciples of Asaram Ashram, the police said yesterday.
The case was registered against Vikas Khemka, Yogesh Bhati, Uday Sanghani, Minketan Patra, Pankaj Saxena, Ajay Jha and Kaushik Vani. Two minor boys – Dipesh and Abhishek – had gone missing from the Gurukul in July last year and their mutilated bodies were recovered from the Sabarmati riverbed near the Ashram a day after their disappearance. The mysterious deaths of the two children had led to a public outcry with the parents of the two children calling it an act of sorcery. Following the public agitation against the investigation carried out by the local police in the case, the case was handed over to the CID.
A commission had also appointed under the chairmanship of a retired High Court Judge to look into the circumstances in which the two boys were found dead and the subsequent police investigation.
