Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh on Friday received the certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records for creating a global record for simultaneously washing hands on world hand-washing day on October 15 last year, an official said here.
Additional Chief Secretary (panchayats and rural development) Aruna Sharma and a team of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Madhya Pradesh received the certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records.
As many as 12,76,425 students created the world record by simultaneously washing hands at the programmes organised by panchayats and rural development department at 13,196 places across 51 districts of Madhya Pradesh on October 15, 2014, the certificate notes.
The earlier record was held jointly by Argentina, Peru and Mexico. In these three countries 7,40,870 people had created the record by simultaneous hand-washing on October 14, 2011.
