Guard murdered for not opening gate promptly

Mohali, July 02: A security guard, who failed to immediately open the entrance gate of a residential area here, was brutally murdered by an local resident and his friend early Friday, police said. Both have arrested.

The guard, Chotte Lal was posted at the entrance gate of an area in phase 3B2 when the incident happened.

The arrested accused were identified as Amardeep Singh Virk, who lived in the colony, and his friend Taranvir Singh Sahota, resident of neighbouring Kharar town.

“Virk had a party at his house on Thursday night and Sahota had come from Kharar to attend it. While returning at around 2.30 a.m., Sahota had a heated argument with Chotte as the later got late in opening the gate. At that time, he left the place after threatening the guard,” said Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Mohali district police chief.

“Sahota then called Virk and narrated the entire incident. Both reached the entrance gate and started beating Chotte. Virk hit Chotte on the face with a stone four-five times and then both fled,” Bhullar said.

After collecting the evidence from the spot, police zeroed in on Virk and Sahota and arrested them.
