Hyderabad: GST has been implemented throughout the country. Its effects cannot be expressed soon but as a result of it, the essential commodities of common daily use seem to have become costly. GST has been imposed on articles which never thought to be included under it. Dosa, Sambar, tea, coffee and drinking water will now be costly. It is not clear whether the implementation of GST will bring down costs or result in their enhancement.
Pulses may go up by 5%, Tamarind will be expensive by 12% as a result of which the prices of Dosa and Sambar will also go up. It is likely that petty traders may get some benefits since they are not covered under GST.
Textile industry which was not included in any tax net earlier is now included which may result in enhancement of cost of cloth. 5% tax has been imposed on the textile industry. The businessmen say that a petty traders and a millionaire both have been brought under the same tax structure which depicts that there is not flexibility.
