GST Bill: CPI (M) slams ‘opportunist’ BJP

New Delhi, Aug. 13, : The CPI (M) on Thursday alleged that the BJP-led NDA Government did not want the GST Bill to be passed in the Monsoon Session of Parliament because of political gains as they did not want to spoil their relations with the AIADMK.

“This government didn’t want the GST Bill to be passed because a very big party was opposing the same, which is the AIADMK, and they (the BJP) want their relations with the AIADMK to improve. The government needs their support in the Parliament. Had they brought the GST bill then they would not have got the support,” CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury told the media here.

“Many regional parties and state governments have opposed the GST Bill. So to lure them, the government did not pass the GST Bill,” he added.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said that the government is determined to roll out the GST Bill from April next year.

Taking potshots at the opposition for disruptions in Parliament, Jaitley said that it was aimed at delaying the GST Bill.

He alleged that Congress Party’s real intent was to not let the economy grow and it used strength to try and halt the progress. (ANI)
