Greyhounds, Odisha Maoists exchange fire

Vishakapatnam, May 15: The Andhra Pradesh Greyhounds and Odisha Maoists exchanged fire in a forest in Malkangiri district of Odisha. No casualties on either side have been reported.

The exchange of fire lasted for two hours, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., in the dense forest on Saturday.

Police sources said more forces would be deployed at the place from Sunday.

As the area is on the borders of Odisha, Greyhounds are moving forward with help of Odisha police in the forest. Police suspect the presence of Maoists in a huge number in the place.

It may be recalled that Maoists, a few months ago, kidnapped collector of Malkangiri, Vineel Krishna, and later released him on certain conditions.

Since then cops have been waiting for an opportunity to eliminate Maoists and restore peace in the Maoist strongholds.
