Greyhounds constable Nayeem on sentry duty commits suicide

In a sensational incident in city, a young police constable of Greyhounds wing on duty at the in-charge police commissioner Anurag Sharma’s residence, was found dead with a bullet in his chest early in the morning today.

Mohd Abdul Nayeem, 29, was on sentry duty and his death, preliminarily described as ‘suicide,’ happened at the fag end of his duty time. A single fire shot that pierced his heart roused other policemen in the vicinity and they rushed to see him lying dead in uniform with his AK 47 lying by the side. Blood was oozing from his mouth.

Nayeem’s Family members have alleged that he was murdered as he had no reason to commit suicide. His marriage was to take place in six months with his uncle’s daughter and he had also built a new home. Nayeem’s brother Mohd Abdul Raoof, who is also a constable in AP Special battalion, said his brother was happy and had dinner with the family on Monday. In fact, his engagement was slated for next Sunday.

Mohd Abdul Nayeem hails from Lingala of Mahbubnagar district and he was appointed in 2002 as police constable and he was part of the anti-Naxal Grayhounds wing. He lived at Suleman Nagar of Rajander Nagar area with his widowed mother Rasheeda Begum. His father M A Raheem, who was also a policeman, had died long back.

Nayeem was residing in Grey hounds quarters at Gandipet area. He had his last supper with mother on Sunday night and they discussed the coming marriage. His mother described his son as cheerful. Nayeem was paired with Suman and Satyakrishna, on the shift and the two colleagues said they heard of the gun shot and came running but it was too late. Inspector of Saifabad V Umendar said it appeared like a suicide but investigation had been launched.

The victim’s uncle Nooruddin told media that his nephew was killed, as the boy was happy and about to begin his married life. The police are examining the calls he made and received on his mobile phone. It is said that the last call he attended was from one Jani of Lingala Mahbubnagar district.
