Allahabad: Four grenades and an under-barrel grenade launcher were today found inside an abandoned bag near the Allahabad Railway Junction.
“The weapons were found inside a bag that was lying under a tree, just a few metres away from one of the entrance gates of the station, this evening,” Kavindra Pratap Singh, SP Railway (Allahabad) said.
“As per our investigation so far, there is nobody who might have noticed when and who kept the bag at the spot. We have lodged an FIR at the GRP railway station against unnamed persons,” Singh said.
It is suspected that the grenades and launcher might have been stolen from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), he said.
“We have information that huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives was stolen from an ITBP camp at Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh many months ago,” Singh said, adding, the grenades and launcher recovered are of very high quality in comparison to what central paramilitary forces use.
