Grenade attack kills one in Pakistan

Islamabad, May 03: A woman has been killed and three others injured in a grenade attack targeting the residence of a local peace committee in Swat Valley, northwest of Pakistan.

The bomb ripped through the house of Roshanzada, a member of local Peace Committee in Kabal area of Sangarserai in Swat Valley on Sunday, leaving one woman dead and three more people injured, Pakistani police officials told Press TV.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital and police cordoned off the area, starting an investigation into the blast.

In another development, security forces killed a suspected bomber in Khar Tehsil of Bajaur Agency in northwestern Pakistan. He was killed right on the spot after he tried to escape from the scene.

Meanwhile, in new operations against militants in the Orakzai tribal district in the northwest, Pakistani troops managed to kill 21 militants and wound several more, pounding two of militants’ hideouts as well.

Orakzai Agency, one of the country’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), is believed to be a stronghold of pro-Taliban militants.

So far more than 600 militants and 18 security personnel have died during a month-long operation in the agency, Pakistani officials say.
