Governor ESL Narasimhan today exhorted the people to participate in Haritha Haram drive to make the city and entire State of Telangana to get a green look. The Governor asked the officials to give permission for construction of new houses only when they plant at least 10 saplings on their premises.
To give a push to the Green Drive, Narasimhan planted a sapling at BHEL here as part of planting 25 lakhs of saplings on Monday after beating a drum and taking oath to protect the saplings. On the occasion, the Governor asked the people to think the Haritha Haram program as social responsibility and not just that of the government. “Since the water and air are life for us, we must encourage the green drive to plant saplings to get rains and preserve for better environment through rain pits at their houses, offices and colonies”. The Government, he said, has taken a great program to expand the green cover to get rains, fight pollution and maintain ecological balance.
Suggesting that the people avoid giving bouquets to VIPs and instead give saplings, Narasimhan said he will inspect the plants and review the green drive program after six months. “Our lives are relying on greenery, water and air we have to participate voluntarily in the green expansion”, he stated. The Governor also hoped that the historic city of Hyderabad will adorn a green look with active participation of the officials, leaders and people on a whole.
