Justice (retd) Markandey Katju today said Urdu is a shining gem in the treasury of Indian culture. Great injustice has been done in our country to Urdu.
In a post on his facebook wall he said “What a tragedy that this great language, whose poetry I regard as the best in modern India, has been sought to be rejected in our own country which gave it birth, due to some semi-educated bigoted idiots”.
This is not the first time when Katju spoke about injustice with Urdu, during his visit to Hyderabad, he mentioned that Urdu belonged to all and not restricted to any particular community.
“A misconception has been created that Hindi and Urdu belonged to particular communities…Urdu belonged to all,” Katju said.
