Graves desecrated; graveyard transformed into gambling hub

Today some wayward youths have transformed the graveyards into hubs of social evils. You can see in this picture that some youth wearing slippers are sitting on the grave and are engaged in gambling. When our correspondent tried to admonish them they scoffed and said ‘we play gambling here daily with our friends. What difference will it make if you take our photograph? You can take the photograph if you like.’ They don’t have manners since they do not have Allah’s fear.

Is it not the duty of graveyard authorities and muttavalis to warn these anti social elements and stop them from wrong doings or hand them over to the police? When it comes to taking money for grave land they charge as high as 10, 20 and even 50 thousand rupees for a grave. But after that they do not care what else is going on in the graveyard and how the graves are desecrated by indulging in all types of anti social activities like gambling, drinking, etc.

Graveyards which are kept clean can be counted on the fingers of one hand. While majority of them are left at the mercy of these anti social elements. The incident narrated here is of a famous Dargah at Nampally.

If such type of anti social activities are practiced at admonishing places such as a graveyard then which place can remain safe from such activities?
