New Delhi, July 09: Two weeks after a senior citizen was found murdered in her flat in East of Kailash, the police on Wednesday night arrested two persons, including the victim’s grandson, for the crime. Those arrested were identified as Sunny (25) and Mohd Fazal (22), both residents of Haryana.
Sources claimed Fazal and Sunny visited victim Basanti on June 20. Sunny asked his grandmother for Rs 2000, and as the woman was taking out the money, the duo allegedly killed her and took away jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees as well as cash. Police said Sunny was the victim’s daughter’s son and was presently unemployed. “He had taken a loan of Rs 4000 from Fazal and was under pressure to return the money,” said a cop.
Police added that the duo had planned to kill Basanti earlier but their plan did not suceed. On the day of the incident, Sunny took his brother-in-law’s car and drove to East of Kailash from Haryana. The police were conducting raids at various places to seize the stolen jewellery. The duo came under the scanner after Sunny’s brother-in-law told police that Sunny had taken his car a day before the murder.
Seventy-year-old Basanti was found murdered in her flat near Garhi in East of Kailash. She lived alone and owned several properties. Her four sons and husband stayed in different flats nearby. The body was decomposed when it was discovered by her son Harish Kumar.
