Grammar School multi-batch alumni meet tomorrow

Hyderabad, December 21: The first-ever Multi-Batch Alumni Meeting of the 175-year old St George’s Boys and Girls’ Grammar School will be held on December 23 at the Millennium Gardens, here.

Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, Mr J Jagannath Reddy, an alumnus, who conceived the idea of Alumni Meet, said that for the first time in its 176 years of existence, the school would be hosting a Multi Batch Alumni Meet. He also said that the students of all the batches that passed out between 1965 and 1985 would come together at this first meeting. He said that students from other batches were also welcome to join this unique event. The venue for the event, the Millennium Gardens, provided by Mr Qutub free of charge, was another alumnus of the institution.

The chief guest on the occasion would be the Arjun Award winner and twice National champion in Table Tennis, Mr Mir Kasim Ali, he added. He said that he has been engrossed with this task over the last one year while remaining in contact with some 1,000 students. He said that their response in this regard boosted his morale and efforts. Stating that the event would be a fantastic one, he said that it is going to form a solid platform for many such annual events henceforth.

Speaking on the glorious history of the school, Mr Reddy said that the oldest Missionary School in the City, which was established in 1834, celebrated its 175th anniversary last year. The alumni of the school included many luminaries like Ms Sarojini Naidu, the first Indian cosmonaut, Mr Rakesh Sharma, Air Marshall Idris Latif, the Arjun Award winner and twice Table-Tennis National champion, Mr Mir Kasim Ali, the actor, Mr Suresh Oberoi, the film director, Mr Nagesh Kukunoor and the present Ambassador to Yemen, Mr Ausaf Sayeed and so on.
