New Delhi, January 23: Unlike earlier, the students appearing in Class X annual examination of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) this year will be awarded grades instead of marks in their certificates .
Till last year, the class X students used to get both marks as well as grades. The schools however are seeing red in the new system, especially for this year. The class X students, who are to opt for a vocational or some other course after passing class X this year are worried a lot about their future.
Harmeet Kaur Wariach, principal of Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Road, said, “The grade system is not uniformly accepted. So the students who want to go for Joint Entrance Test (JET) for courses related to computers and fashion designing etc are likely to suffer unless these institutes alter their admission criteria.
Till last year, these institutes used to admit children on the basis of the test along with aggregate marks. But now, as these students will receive their result in the form of grades and not aggregate marks, it is not clear as to how they will admit these students.”
While, RS Gill, Director of Sahodaya Schools Complex, Ludhiana, and the principal of Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar, said, “Of course, there is uncertainity for the students aspiring to go for other course after passing class X, because the grade will be like ‘A’ grade for 90 to 100 marks. But how these institutes will factor in the grades is yet to be seen?”
Saurabh Sharma, a JET aspirant, said, “I am worried about my future as we will get grades this year while most of the institutes admit students post-JET on the basis f aggregate marks. I am seriously considering to abandon my JET plans and pursue class XI instead.”
Gunmeet Kaur, a science teacher at Darshan Academy, Bhamiyan Kalan, said, “The institutes who admit children after class X, will have to come up with some solution for those passing class X from CBSE. Otherwise, the students will suffer for no fault of theirs.”
