Grades for Class X in State from this year

Hyderabad, October 24: In an attempt to ease pressure on tenth standard students, the School Education Department has decided to move to ‘grading system’ from ‘marking system’ from the current academic year (March 2010). The government order to this effect was issued today.

In the new system, students’ performance would be evaluated in nine grades – eight for ‘‘promoted’’ students and one for those who need to redo the course.

School education department sources said the decision has been taken to protect students from getting crushed in the war among various corporate schools in their bid to score t h e h i g h e s t marks in the exams so as to increase their popularity and thereby business.

‘‘Apart from the de-stressing factor, the decision has also been taken to facilitate the proposed unification of all State boards in the country on the lines of CBSE to facilitate wider mobility for students all over the country,’’ a school education official told ‘Express’.
