Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) will be introduced in all the universities of Telangana State from next academic year. Guidelines for the implementation of this scheme have been finalized. Ministry of HRD and UGC had constituted a three member committee in November last year. The conference of education ministers held in November 2014 had also stressed the need for implementation of grading system gradually. In the first phase State Universities, its constituent colleges and autonomous colleges will adopt this scheme. Principal Secretary, Dept. of Education Ranjiv R. Acharya told that she has received a report of the committee on the implementation of CBCS and the orders of Ministry of Human Resource Development are awaited. These guidelines have to be approved by the academic senates and executive councils of the respective universities. Governor in the capacity of Chancellor has to give his assent. Experts expressed their apprehension that it will be difficult for a student to shift from one University to another since there is no uniformity in credit systems. UGC has not specified the number of credits for each course. It has been left to the discretion of various faculties for allotting credits to each course.
