Gowda asks PM to visit flood-hit areas in Karna

New Delhi, October 03: JD(S) President H D Deve Gowda today requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to undertake a visit to the flood-affected parts of Karnataka and assess the damage even as he charged the BJP-led government in the state with indifference to the plight of people. In a letter to the prime minister, Gowda said northern parts of the state bore the brunt of the floods which has claimed scores of lives and damaged thousands of homes.

“It is my request that your good self undertake an aerial surveillance of the worst-affected districts to assess for yourself the extensive damage caused. “Such a visit at the earliest can be followed immediately by that of a high-level Central team, which can assess the losses and recommend measures for relief and rehabilitation of hapless people,” he wrote.

Gowda also attacked the B S Yeddyurappa-led BJP government in the state, saying “unfortunately, the Government is busy training its ministers with party leaders Narendra Modi and Arun Jaitley preparing them for the next 20 years even as Karnataka lies in shambles at present”. “There cannot be a more glaring example of criminal negligence and sheer indifference on the part of any state government to the plight of the people in post-Independent democratic India,” he wrote in his letter.
