GUNTUR: The Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday withdrew cases against nine Muslim youths who were booked for allegedly raising slogans against ex-Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu.
Following recommendations from the Directorate of Prosecutions after a careful examination of the entire matter, the government decided to withdraw the prosecution against nine persons reported The New Indian Express.
During the TDP regime, the Muslim youths hailing from Kurnool district allegedly showed placards and raised slogans ‘Nara Hamara-TDP Hamara’ against the then chief minister’s public meeting in Guntur at the BR Stadium.
The police registered cases against the nine youths identified as Darga Shaik Abibulla, Sk Juber, Sk Juber Ahmed, Sk Mahaboob Basha, Syed Abeed, Sk Athar Salman, Sk Iliaz, Sk Mukthu and Mohammad Mujahuddin.
They were facing charges under section 505 (1) (B), 505 (2) and 120 (B) of IPC.
It was an election promise of YSRC chief Jaganmohan Reddy to drop the cases with criminal charges if he came to power.
