Govt urged to scrap contract workers system

The Progressive Contract and Casual Workers’ Union, affiliated to Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU), has demanded that the Centre and State governments regularize the contract posts in various departments.

Inaugurating the first State-level meeting here on Sunday, Union national general secretary B. Pradeep alleged that though the country got independence in 1947, the governments failed to scrap the contract system, which was introduced by the erstwhile British rulers in the country. Alleging that the managements were deceiving the contract employees, he appealed to the workers to come forward to fight for regularization of contract employee posts in the future.

IFTU State general secretary P. Prasad said that lakhs of contract workers in the State, were living in penury. He stressed the need to fight for achievement of their demands in the future.

Progressive Contract Causal Workers’ Union leaders V. Kiran, Aruna, S. C. Padma, and V. Praveen also spoke. (NSS)
