Govt. taunts UPA, hails Railway Budget as ‘visionary’

New Delhi : The BJP-led NDA Government on Thursday hailed the Railway Budget as ‘visionary’, saying that the steps which have been laid out would improve the infrastructure of the railways.

“It was a visionary budget. Many steps were laid out which will improve the infrastructure. What can be a bigger achievement for us to fulfil something in the next two-three years, which had not been fulfilled in the last 60-65 years? The Congress-led UPA Government never made these kinds of policies,” Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh told the media outside the Parliament.

Echoing similar sentiments, Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that the facilities for passengers and their comfort have been given utmost priority in the Railway Budget.

“Through this budget, Suresh Prabhu wanted to propel the growth, which was initiated last year. This budget is for the commoners. We all thank him,” he added.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, who presented the budget for 2016-17 in the Parliament, said the core objective is to become an engine of employment generation and economic growth at national level.

He proposed no changes in passenger fares and freight rates.

He said Railway will generate ninecrore man-days employment by 2017-18 and 14 crore man-days by 2018-19.

He also stated that ‘reorganise, restructure and rejuvenate’ are the three key mantras for his ministry.

Proposing a plan size of one lakh twenty one thousand crore rupees in 2016-17, Prabhu said by 2020, long felt desires of the common man are to be fulfilled. (ANI)
