Govt supports Soyabean cultivation: Parthasarathi

Telangana government is committed to help farmers flourish through scientific procedures to achieve self sufficiency with infrastructure and facilities, Agriculture Commissioner C Parthasarathi said today.

As per the  directive of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao,   farmers were  shifted to other crops in 5 lakh acres,  like Soyabean and others,  from cultivating cotton in the state,  he said. About 10000 farmers of 520 villages are involved in cultivation of Soyabean in 45000 acres across the state by shifting from cotton cultivation. This was stated by  Parthasarathi at Medak district after inspecting Soyabean crops along with horticulture commissioner L Venkatram Reddy at Erravelli and Narsannapet in Medak district.

Addressing a gathering of farmers and women later he said that it was good sign to shift from cotton to other crops as it will stop the loss to the farmers. Parthasarathi also asked the farmers to cultivate other crops than cotton as the  soil in the state is not favourable for cotton cultivation. Instead it will benefit them if they  take up horticulture crops and others which need less investment and water,  he maintained. Based on advices from agriculture scientists and experts it was planned to cultivate Soyabean, Redgram, green gram and others in 2.5 lakh acres.(NSS)
