New Delhi: The government of India has declared the liberation of Mosul as an important milestone in the global war on terrorism. The govt said they have activated various channels to locate 39 missing Indians who worked in Mosul as construction workers.
As per Nav Bharat Times, the militants had kidnapped these labourers in 2014 and there was not any information about them since then. The government has said to see the whole matter, Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh has reached Erbil on Monday evening.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Gopal Bagale said that immediately after the announcement of the release of Mosul from the Prime Minister of Iraq, the Indian government has started attempts to find out the missing Indians.
Bagley said, “The ambassador of India to Iraq and our consul general in Erbil have been instructed to continue the efforts to locate them on priority.”
Iraqi authorities have also said that in this case the full support to the Government of India will be given. Apart from this, all the related Iraqi agencies are asked for their cooperation.
Punjab CM Amarinder Singh had called up Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday, seeking her intervention to track the Indians.
Swaraj assured Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh that her ministry was making efforts to locate them. Most of them are from Punjab, who have been held hostage in Mosul since 2014.
