Ludhiana, August 03: Deserving students of economically weaker, women and physically-challenged sections of society have a reason to cheer as they will now be able to pursue higher studies and become self-reliant.
Under the fee waiver scheme of the state government, some seats have been earmarked for such students in Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Civil Lines, said Devinder Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development).
He said a total of six seats have been made available in the institution for Diploma in Pharmacy, out of which two for woman, three for economically weaker sections and one for the physically handicapped.
He said the scheme will benefit students as they would not be required to pay fees and the state government would support their studies.
He said students who have studied science till Class XII can take admission in the pharmacy course on the basis of relative merit of marks obtained in physics, chemistry and biology or mathematics in the qualifying examination.
“There is no lower or upper age limit for admission and only students of Punjab in terms of Punjab Government Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (PP II Branch) will be eligible for admission under the scheme,” he said.
He added that under the economically weaker category, the family income of parents of the applicant should not be more than Rs 2.5 lakh annually.
For proof of income, documents required include income certificate from the head of the department, employer in case of serving parents, income-tax return in case of businessmen or DC’s certificate based on income from landed property or affidavit stating total family income attested by Executive Magistrate.
The applicants under the physically-handicapped category will be required to submit the documents as per the Punjab government guidelines and they can contact principal Kuldip Singh at 0161-241286.
