Govt, SHRC order probe

Hyderabad, August 04: The State government and the State Human Rights Commission on Monday ordered a probe into the mysterious death of State Armed Reserve (SAR) constable P Muralinath, posted in the New Delhi house of Octopus chief Vivek Dube, at Gwalior a few days ago.

The State government, following public outrage over the circumstances surrounding the death and the Opposition onslaught in the Assembly over the issue, wanted the probe to also cover the usage of constables as ‘orderlies’ by higher officials. Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, in an emergency meeting convened with the Home Minister and other senior police officials at his office, constituted a committee comprising Chief Secretary P Ramakanth Reddy, Principal Secretary (Home) Ajay Mishra and Director General of Police SSP Yadav to investigate the constable’s death and submit a report within a week. Seeking an explanation from the officials on the posting of Muralinath in New Delhi, he also wanted the team to find out the number of constables deployed for jobs like ‘orderlies’, their place of posting and nature of work.

He told the panel to ascertain whether it was legal to use a constable for personal purposes of higher officials as the orderly system was abolished several years ago.

He asked Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy to ensure due compensation was paid to the bereaved family. State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Chairperson Justice B Subhashan Reddy, responding to a petition filed by Muralinath’s family, directed the Chief Secretary to submit a report on the constable’s death by August 5 and also sought an explanation for the delay in bringing back the body.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that a team led by Reserve Inspector Ravi Kumar is returning with Muralinath’s body after exhuming it from Jaithpur village near Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. The team is likely to reach here tomorrow. Sources said Muralinath was posted at Noida by assistant commandant KV Premjit, who heads the Motor Transport department in the SAR, CPL at Amberpet. Meanwhile, the constable’s family staged a protest demanding action against those responsible for Muralinath’s death. A bandh was observed in Lingojiguda of Saroornagar.
