Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said that a Government should win the confidence of all communities to maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the country.
“A Government should win the confidence of all communities; this helps in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere. No religious or caste community of the state should feel left out, Government must ensure it has all on board,” he said in his lecture on ‘Idea of India’ at a function organized by the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) here.
Speaking on the issue of India’s GDP, Kumar asked whether people of this country are feeling safe, or have their lives improved.
“The GDP can be high for many reasons, the question is how safe are people feeling, has their life improved or not? You have to be worried about health, education,” he said.
He indirectly hinted at Bharatiya Janata Party’s ( BJP) Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi , and said that to run the country, you have to take everyone along.
“To run the country, you have to take everyone along… at times you will have to wear a topi (cap), at times a tilak (vermillion mark on the forehead),” he said in his lecture on ‘Idea of India’ at a function organized by the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) here.
Questioning Modi’s credentials, Kumar accused him of not having done enough to prevent the Gujarat riots in 2002.
Nitish Kumar is the first Chief Minister to deliver the annual lecture of the National Commission for Minorities. The function was presided over by Minority Affairs Minister K Rahman Khan.
The annual lecture which was started in 2008, has been delivered by eminent people qualified to speak on the idea of secularism and rights of minorities in India.
